THE RTD [Resistance Temperature Detector] is one of the most accurate temperature sensors, Not only does it provide good accuracies, it also provides excellent stability.

RTD are available in Simplex & Duplex Element with two / three wire configuration.
RTD probe is inserted in to a close end tube well, having 06mm, 08mm dia. and then filled with

Mgo insulation. This type of RTD assemblies fitted one another drilled bar sheath having mounting adjustable/ fixed bush [Like ½”, ¾”, 1” BSP]

Thermocouples are widely used in measurement & control the temperature. Thermocouple have a general specification & used with/ without mounting system, the size & length of Thermocouples depend on their application. There are several different recognized Thermocouples. Type available each type has different useful temperature ranges as well as different application.

NOBLE METAL THERMOCOUPLE - These type of Thermocouple are manufactured with Precious or noble metals such as-

(Platinum/13%Rhodium – Pure Platinum) Type “R” – used up to 1450 dig.C 
(Platinum/10%Rhodium – Pure Platinum) Type “S” – used up to 1450 dig.C 
(Platinum/30%Rhodium – Platinum/6%Rhodium) Type “B” – used up to 1750 dig.C 

These Thermocouples protected by ceramic 610 tubes / ceramic 710 tubes.
These Thermocouples are usually FRAGILE.

BASE METAL THERMOCOUPLE -

These type of Thermocouples are manufactured with Inexpensive metals such as-
(Ni Cr-Ni) Type “K” - used up to 1200 dig.C temperature.
(Fe-Ko) Type “J”- used up to 750 dig.C temperature.

Thermocouple is protected with metallic tube/ drilled bar made of SS 304, SS 316, SS 310 HRS 446 & inconal 600 in different diameter.

MINERAL INSULATED THERMOCOUPLE - These type of Thermocouples are manufactured with common   Inexpensive metals such as-
(Ni Cr-Ni) Type “K” - used up to 1200 dig.C temperature.
(Fe-Ko) Type “J”- used up to 750 dig.C temperature.
These Thermocouples are protected with seamless metallic tube of SS 304, SS 316, SS 310
inconal 600 in range of  1.5 mm 4.5mm 6mm & 8mm diameter . The Thermocouple element
is insulated from the metal sheath by a compacted MAGNESIUM OXIDE [MGO] power

The Thermocouples / RTD Sensors should be connected to the instruments by proper cable minimize error due to cable resistance, for thermocouple sensors; compensating cable of proper type must be used.

Compensating  Thermocouple Cable

Compensating cable are used as connection lead From the Probe (Thermocouple) to the measuring Instrument (Temperature Indicator) . These cables incorporate different alloys which give the same emf output (With in a limited temperature range)  as those in the thermocouple.

       There for it is essential that a cable is used which has the same emf output as
       The Thermocouple; otherwise spurious emf is generated at these junction. Compensating. Cable provides convenient, economic solution with in probe & indicator. Compensating Cable is require as per type (J/K/R/S/RTD) of Thermocouple. 

       Compensating cable has two cores (positive & negative) each core has different colour code for reorganisation of the polarity, Compensating Cables are insulated by PVC/ PVC, fibreglass/fibreglass, Fibreglass/fibreglass/SS, Fibreglass/fibreglass/asbestos having different conductor size Like 3/24 SWG, 3/26 SWG, 7/26 SWG, 7/36 SWG
